Hugh Hornby Senior Individual Merit – Saturday 27th May 2023

The L-shaped Greenhill Social and Bowling Club, Burnley was the venue for the North Lancs & Fylde CBA ‘Hugh Hornby’ Senior County Merit Finals 2023. After qualifying rounds earlier in May, the last 16 competitors assembled in Burnley. Within their ranks were several established County team bowlers, plenty of well-known competition bowlers… and a few new, exciting faces looking at getting their names onto the prestigious trophy. But who would be victorious?
Following some fantastic bowling on a very tricky green, the Semi-Finals came down to a match up of team-mates. Scott Taylor and Terry McMullan (both from Frenchwood), and Simon Coupe against Sam Patterson (both from Parkfield Labour). Scott and Simon came through these games unscathed, but it was Simon that went on to collect his 4th Senior County Merit title with a 21-13 success.
Simon, Scott and Sam (following a play-off victory over Terry) will now go on to represent the County in the All-England Championship on Saturday 29th July at Heaton Park, Manchester.
Thanks must go to Greenhill S&BC for hosting the Finals, Carleton BC and Penwortham Sprots BC for hosting the Qualifying events, and to our County Competition Secretary, Andy Fleming, for running the competition.
