North Lancs & Fylde CBA County League

Applications of interest are being sought for the formation of a new ‘County League’. The aim of the league will be to develop Club bowling across the five district regions of our County: Fylde, Preston, Lancaster, Blackburn and East Lancs.

Part of the appeal of this new league will be the opportunity to play against new players, and on new greens.

A finalised format has still to be agreed, but the general structure will be as follows:

  • 6, or 8 players per team playing singles matches
  • 6 teams per division, playing a standard home and away format through the season (April to September)
  • Games will be played fortnightly, with teams only having one away fixture per month
  • All matches to be played on Friday evenings
  • Promotion and relegation across divisions

Several teams have already committed to the proposal and we are now looking for additional applications of interest to enable us to finalise everything ready for a launch in April 2024.

It goes without saying that we would like to achieve representation from all five regions of the North Lancs & Fylde County.

In the first instance, please contact County Secretary, Pete Harris, to confirm your interest in the league, by October 31st at the latest.

  2. Hi, received the e-mail regarding proposed new league.
I have posted a copy on our notice board & it will be mentioned at our AGM this week.
the only remark I would point out is that most Burnley area club members play in Leagues on, Monday PM(singles), Tues Afternoon (singles), Tues PM (doubles), Wednesday Afternoon (singles), Thursday PM (singles), Friday PM (singles), & Saturday Afternoon (singles), so am not sure when this could be fitted in.
hope you get interest from other areas which dont have as many existing leagues.

  4. Hi Pete, Edgworth BC have reviewed this proposal at today’s committee meeting and have decided that whilst of interest to some of our bowlers, now is not the time for us to join in with this venture.

There are a couple of reasons: We are right on the outskirts of the region so there is potential for long travel times to and from matches, plus I don’t think we have enough high level bowlers available to make a strong enough team as we already have 2 teams that play on a Friday. Also we already have 11 teams that play across 6 leagues, with only 2 teams playing first division. It is felt that we need to focus more on the development of newer bowlers, rather than try to get some more stronger players from other clubs to create another team. Some of our better bowlers already play Federation, inter-town and for Lancs county so are well catered for.

We wish you every success with the formation of this league and would like to be kept informed of its progress. It is certainly something for serious consideration in future years as we progress as a club. Thanks, Andy Warman Secretary EBC.
